Barcode processing.
Barcode processing is only available in the Pro version of Degei.
Purchasers of the Pro version will receive personalized training on the
operation of this module.

This is what the batch scan window may look like while scanning data.

The scanning window is very simple. This is where you print your
barcodes and where you collect your scanned data.
Access the barcode menu option to print code scan sheets and labels.
To begin data collection, select a scanning station and set a default feeder
state. You can then begin scanning data.
When you are done collecting data with the scanner click the process data
button to post the scanned data to the system. During processing, the
system will validate the scans and attempt to log any errors encountered in the
scanned data. Please note, that I cannot control scanners providing
incomplete scans.
Explanation of scanning process:
Live Scanning Mode Instructions and Valid Scanning Process for
Animal by Animal Scanning.
Cursor Must Remain in the Red Scanning Box in the Application.
Turn off any screen savers. Turn off Sleep/Hibernation
functions on computer.
Feedings:
Scan Animal ID Code, then scan feeder code.
Notes: Live scanning mode for feedings only allows for a
quantity of 1 prey item per feeding activity. Feeder state is
not scannable in live scan mode. Feeder state will default to
the state of the last feeding for that animal.
Maintenance:
Scan Animal ID Code, then any of the following.
Spot Clean
Water Change
Substrate Change
Urate
Defecate
Opaque
Shed
Weights:
For scanners without numeric keypad:
Scan animal, then scan Weight Code, then scan number codes for
weight in grams, then scan finish activity code.
For scanners with numeric keypad:
Scan animal, then scan Weight Code, then enter number codes on
scanner for weight in grams and press enter on scanner, then
scan finish activity code.
Breeding:
To record the following activities with a male id attached to
the activity:
Pairing
Courting
Copulation
Ovulation
Separate
PO Shed
Scan the female's barcode, then scan the activity, then scan the
male's barcode.
To record the following activities without a male id attached to
the activity:
Pairing
Courting
Copulation
Ovulation
Separate
PO Shed
Scan the female's barcode, then scan the activity, then scan the
activity barcode a second time.
Follicles:
For scanners without numeric keypad:
Scan animal, then scan Follicles Code, then scan number codes
for follicle size in mm, then scan finish activity code.
For scanners with numeric keypad:
Scan animal, then scan Follicles Code, then enter number codes
on scanner for follicle size in mm and press enter on scanner,
then scan finish activity code.
Clutch/Live Birth:
For scanners without numeric keypad:
Scan Female's ID, then Scan Clutch barcode, then scan Male's
barcode, then scan the number codes for the number of good eggs.
At this point, you may scan the finish activity code to post the
clutch OR you may scan the "Bad Eggs" code and then scan the
number codes for the number of bad eggs, then scan the finish
activity code.
For scanners with numeric keypad:
Scan Female's ID, then Scan Clutch barcode, then scan Male's
barcode, then enter numbers on the scanner for the number of
good eggs and press enter on the scanner.
At this point, you may scan the finish activity code to post the
clutch OR you may scan the "Bad Eggs" code and then enter
numbers on the scanner for the number of bad eggs and press
enter on the scanner, then scan the finish activity code.
*Note that there is a setup option that will allow the clutch
label to print automatically on the posting of a clutch record
if you wish.
*Note that on the post of a clutch record, the program will
focus the Clutch data tab so that you may enter any detail notes
you desire. If you want to remain on the activity grid tab, you
must manually click on that tab.
*Note that if you wish to record the clutch data manually
afterwards, you may scan the finish activity code after scanning
the male and that will enter a clutch with no egg information.
This covers all current available scans for "live scanning"
mode.
Batch scan mode from the "scanning screen"
Press alt+s or click scan button or select activate scanning
mode from the edit menu at the top of the screen.
As you scan items, you will see codes and text being collected
in this window. When you are finished, click process data to
enter the data to the active system.
Feedings:
In batch mode, feedings can be scanned with or without state
codes.
You can also scan quantity feedings.
Examples of valid scans:
Scan id, rat, live (enters 1 rat live feeding)
Scan id, rat, rat, rat (enters rat feeding with default state
and a qty of 3
Scan id, mouse, then 20 minutes later still in the same session,
with other scans in between, scan id for that animal again and,
mouse. (when you process, this will put in 1 feeding for that
animal of mouse with a qty of 2)
Scan id, rat, later that session, scan that id and refused.
This will post a refused feeding for that animal.
Weight:
Scan id, weight, scan numbers or enter on scanner pad.
*There is no need to scan the finish activity code in batch mode
for this activity.
Follicles:
Scan id, follicles, scan numbers or enter on scanner pad.
*There is no need to scan the finish activity code in batch mode
for this activity.
Maintenance:
Scan Animal ID Code, then any of the following.
Spot Clean
Water Change
Substrate Change
Urate
Defecate
Opaque
Shed
Breeding:
To record the following activities with a male id attached to
the activity:
Pairing
Courting
Copulation
Ovulation
Separate
PO Shed
Scan the female's barcode, then scan the activity, then scan the
male's barcode.
To record the following activities without a male id attached to
the activity:
Pairing
Courting
Copulation
Ovulation
Separate
PO Shed
Scan the female's barcode, then scan the activity,
To record the following activities without a male id attached to
the activity but still record a male morph to the breeding:
Pairing
Courting
Copulation
Ovulation
Separate
PO Shed
Scan the female's barcode, then scan the activity, then scan the
morph code for the male.
Clutch/Live Birth:
These 2 scans are limited in batch mode.
You may scan the female, clutch (or live birth) then you may
enter/scan a number of good eggs, then you may scan the male
that sired the clutch.
Special Scanning Processes in Batch Mode:
Racks:
If you create racks in the system, you can perform scans on
entire racks in the following manor.
Scan rack id, then scan rat (feeds every animal in the rack a
rat)
Refusals can later be scanned in (same session) by scanning id,
then refused for individual animals.
However, you may also do a batch refusal in the session in the
following manor.
On the computer, press enter in the scanning screen to create a
new line in the data collection window.
Scan the refusal code.
Scan every animal that refused.
All animal id's scanned in after that refusal code will be
marked as refused.
As soon as an animal code is scanned with an attached activity,
the refusal batch is ended and processing of activities proceeds
as normal.
Maintenance for Racks:
Spot Clean, Water Change and Substrate Change codes also can
apply to racks.
Rack maintenance intervals can be set in the rack ops screen.
Scanning a rack code and then one of these 3 activities posts
the activity for every animal in the rack and also resets the
number of days since the activity for the rack in the rack ops
screen. This is useful for printing rack maintenance reports
showing which racks have not had maintenance within their
desired intervals.
